Ever Wonder if You are the “Product” When it Comes to Free Stuff?

Well, wonder no more. Check this out over from LinkedIn:

This AI tool pulls data from many sources (including LinkedIn) to give users plenty of personal info at the click of the mouse.

This gives me MAJOR creepy vibes, and I feel that this is a perfect example of just because something CAN be created, doesn’t necessarily mean that it SHOULD be created.

It has been widely said that when companies offer apps, goods, services, etc. to the public free of charge, the public is the “product”.

What does that mean? Usually that companies harvest all of the data they require you to provide to get the “free” stuff, and then use that data internally to produce targeted advertising, or even sell that data to third-party companies who use it for whatever purpose.

What do you think of it?
